Circle

Brent arrived at Circle at 7:23 this morning 1 hour 15 minutes behind the leader Dan Kaduce. After resting at Central for 5 hours he decided to drop York who the vets determined had a sore back and his shoulder issue was a symptom of that. On the trail into Central Ross was having a sore shoulder also so instead of worrying about it Brent decided to drop him also and go with 12 100% healthy dogs out of Central. Upon arriving in Circle Brent said it was definitely a good thing leaving Ross as the whole team ran great with everyone running their best. The dogs are all looking good, tails were up as they came into the checkpoint. The weather has been very cold, -60 down on Birch Creek over night and no doubt just as cold on th Yukon River. Brent is in good spirits and feeling very good about his position right now. He is sleeping on top of the fire truck here in the Circle fire house as I type.
From here the race moves onto the Yukon River to Eagle. The Eagle checkpoint is not accessible by road so the next time we (Aren, Kyla, and Mark) we be seeing Brent is at Dawson City, YT!

Comments:
Mark, Aren and Kyla,
Thanks for keeping those of us fans who are far, far away updated on Brent and the team. Wish we could be there, but since we can't it's such a blessing to have these updates!

And thanks Ken for the fabulous pictures!

Wild and Free Team,

Thanks so much for the updates - the YQ website isn't as up to date as last year, and it is definitely a challenge "watching" from the web.

Brent's getting great press, and today this one stood out from the YQ news page article, "from circle city":

"The race’s second youngest competitor, 27-year-old veteran Brent Sass and the race’s oldest competitor, 61-year-old veteran Bill Cotter left Circle City this afternoon. Sass has been the most chipper musher to come off any section of trail. His father and dog-handler Mark has been proudly soaking up praise of his son’s accomplishments at each checkpoint."

Brent - your attitude is inspiring!

Go Team Go!

nits, roos 'n howls,
-Pat and Mike
